Very Productive Day

Today was a pretty good day for the most part.  We bought a new refrigerator and waiting for it to be delivered.  I started out the morning about 5:00 am installing Microsoft Windows Vista on two of our computers.  Then I had to install much of the software.  Between the installations, I moved our refrigerator out to the garage to use as a second unit.  Before I could do that I had to replace two wall outlets that were loose.  I had to remove the doors to get the refrigerator out of the house and the garage side door to get it inside.  I had to replace a valve for the ice maker hose because it wanted to keep spraying.  I was pretty fortunate that everything went together without too much trouble.

I have not been too successful in my eating lately.  I lost 22 pounds and then the last week I have been going nuts eating everything.  Time to put the breaks on that.  I also failed in getting my school work done in a timely manner.  I really do not like procrastination; in fact, I am usually early on everything I do.  Not this weekend.  I had several lessons that I waited until the last day to get a couple of them done and that was scary for me.   I usually like to get work done early and not have to worry about something coming up preventing me from completing it.  Well the time finally changes next week and I am glad.  I really do not like daylight savings time.  I wish they would just leave it alone.  I really do not believe their arguments that it saves energy costs. It is a ridiculous argument.

Next week we are suppose to have a new immigration law to prevent hiring illegal aliens in Oklahoma.  It is suppose to give law enforcement the freedom to gather them up and deport them.  Now just as suspected, there are groups trying to get the law over turned. Why do you have to have a new law to be able to arrest law breakers?  I am of the thought that we have a system to allow people to come to the United States.  Just enforce the system that is in place.  I believe that immigration should be legal as long as they follow the legal path.  Mexico is not an oppressed nation and I know this because I have been there.  There are rich and poor just like the United States.  If they were an oppressed Communist country, I could see allowing them free passage but even then, they should be documented.

The Constitution, requires that every ten years a census is done to distribute legislators based on the population.  If there is not an accurate count, then representation will not be legitimate.  Secondly, income taxes are collected to pay for government programs.  When people are not here legally, then they are not in the income tax and social security systems contributing to the welfare of American citizens.  Many are advocating giving government benefits to illegal aliens.  This allows them to collect without contributing.  When people identify them as undocumented, they are willfully misrepresenting them in an attempt to soften the fact that they are illegal.  If they are here legally, I am very supportive of them obtaining benefits along with other legal Americans.    I did not plan on getting into that because when you do, people often misunderstand your opposition as being racist.  This is a very inaccurate assessment and in some cases it is done on purpose in an attempt to quiet those who feel this way.   I hope my take on this is understood for the way it was meant. I guess that is enough of that topic.  I will post more later.

Making fun of Mike Gundy

For those of you not from Oklahoma, you may get a kick out of this.  A few weeks ago the Oklahoma State University football coach, Mike Gundy went nuts on television and really embarrassed himself and the college.  Here is the video of the event…

After this national embarrassment, a local car dealership called Fowler Toyota started running commercials making fun of this.  You should watch this video because it is pretty funny.  You have to watch the first video before the second one or it will not make any sense.

No one will admit it but I am sure that Mike Gundy’s days at OSU are numbered.  If he had an impressive winning record, I think this would not matter like Bobby Knight.  I may be wrong but most companies will not put up with public outbursts like this while wearing their company logo.

And here is another funny video of a Bud Light commercial making fun of Mike Gundy and his tirade.

Halloween Gathering

Last night was an interesting evening. My son Kevin had some friends over for sort of a Halloween party and it was pretty fun. They dressed up and had lots of food and watched scary movies. We took a lot of pictures and some of them are pretty disgusting. I uploaded them on Flickr and had my first comment in less than five minutes. This is the most disgusting of all so I had to post it.

Halloween 2007

This is Kevin in all his glory. I am sure you are just as disgusted as I was to see this. I never did things like this when I was a kid but it was pretty fun. Here is the one that resulted in a post within five minutes…
Halloween 2007

This is Kevin and his girlfriend Jordan. Yes, she does have the same name as Kevin’s brother Jordan. This was pretty funny, although very sick. If you click on these photos, you can see the whole set on Flickr. Below is a picture of some of the food now that your stomach is turned up side down. The below picture is of the Mummy Dogs that my wife made.

The picture below is of some Ghost cookies that my wife Sunday made. She really does a lot for the kids.

Halloween 2007

We do not celebrate Halloween as some may say as an evil holiday. We just enjoy the social event of being together. We do not give any credence to anything evil or give reverence to anything along that line. This is just a fun social even. I say this because I know some people that are convinced that Halloween is evil and celebrating it is practicing a cult activity. As I said before, this is just a social event having fun and that is all.

You think you know your kids?

I learned a valuable lesson this week about my son Jordan.  Do not ever challenge him to do anything unless you are prepared to deal with the consequences.  I really do not think he is afraid of anything.  This week I went to visit my dad about a half mile from here and as I walked out the door, I jokingly told him that I would trade his grounding straight across for him getting a “buzz cut” hair cut.  I thought this was about as unlikely as winning the lottery because we have to fight with him every time it is time to get a trim.  Below is a scary picture of him before the haircut.  He is the one on the right.

He and his brother Kevin are really into some scary movies so this picture was appropriate for the moment.  Anyway, back on topic.  When I came home from my dad’s house, I was shocked to find that he had cut off all his hair as this picture shows…

I should have known something was up since he called me when I was at my dad’s house asking how to use the new camcorder.  I was in disbelief that he would do that.  Well what could I say, I had to honor my agreement and take off the grounding.  After the shock wore off, I must say that he looks pretty good.  This is a valuable lesson for those parents out there who think you may have something to hold over their heads for punishment.   You really cannot punish him because he is willing to take what ever you give him.  That is ok because we love him  and are very proud that God has given him to us.

October 26, 2007

This has been quite a productive day.  The kids wanted to have a Halloween party today.  My wife cooked all day making special Halloween cookies called Witches Fingers, and Ghosts, among others.  It was a pretty good time.  Many of their friends came over and watched scary movies and just had a pretty good time.  I think my wife’s work paid off because everyone was happy.

I had planned on working on one of my school papers this evening but did not thanks to all the people coming in and going out.  I know what I will be doing tomorrow.  It has been such a long day and I am exhausted.  I have been up since 4:30 am, and it is now midnight.  My wife is even more tired than I am.

I finally found out what was wrong with my heater.  We have been having trouble with our central heating not coming on lately.  I went into the attic to find that our gas heating unit was blinking errors.  I looked on the chart what was code was and found that it needed a reset.  I unplugged it for a couple of minutes and then plugged it back in and it worked perfect.  That is a very big weight off our shoulders.  I was afraid this could cost us some money that we do not have.

It has been really cool this past week.  There was three times this week that I woke up to go to work and found frost on the windshield.  It has been a long time since I have seen frost on the car in October.  I am loving the change because we have been hot for way too long.  I am thankful for the cooler weather.  I am ready for the time to change back.  I have never been a fan of Daylight savings time.  I wish they would just put it back to standard time and leave it alone.  Well since I am trying not to doze off at the desk, I better post this and go to bed.

Seattle, Uh, Oklahoma City SuperSonics?

Things are looking very promising on the Sonics coming to Oklahoma City.  I am very excited with the news story on the Seattle Post-Intellengencer.  David Stern has given a conference call and it sounds very promising for Oklahoma City and not so good for Seattle.  I wish nothing bad for Seattle but I do love my hometown of Oklahoma City.  Read the article below…

Those expecting NBA commissioner David Stern to ride to the rescue and save Sonics basketball in Seattle might want to think again.

Speaking on a national conference call with NBA writers Thursday, Stern sounded pessimistic when asked about the Sonics’ future in Seattle, saying his two trips to the area to promote an arena solution showed “there was no heart whatsoever for assisting a Sonics team.”

Stern mentioned last November’s passage of Initiative 91 in Seattle, which prohibits the city’s ability to fund sports arenas without getting a fair-market return, calling that roadblock “unique in the annals of arena building.”

He also cited his own trip to Olympia last year to testify to the state Legislature about arena funding, after which Speaker of the House Frank Chopp said extending legislation of the same taxes currently funding Safeco and Qwest fields “would only get out of committee against his strenuous objections.”

Stern, who just finished two days of owner’s meetings in New York, said Seattle’s situation differs from other arena conflicts in terms of the seeming backlash in its own community toward a potential solution.

“I think every situation is individualized from the league’s perspective,” he said. “It’s fair to say there was a very sort of proactive anti-Seattle Sonics movement.”

Stern said he consulted with lobbyists and arena consultants hired by Clay Bennett’s new ownership group, but sounded resigned to the fact the team could be moved as soon as Bennett gets out of the KeyArena lease.

Sonics owners are currently awaiting a ruling from U.S. District Court Judge Ricardo Martinez on whether they can pursue arbitration in an attempt to buy out the final two years of their KeyArena lease following the upcoming 2007-08 season. If not, Martinez will hear the city of Seattle’s lawsuit that attempts to keep the team playing its games in the arena through 2010.

“We’d love to have found a path to see them stay,” Stern said, “but right now it seems either they’ll be there for the endurance of the lease or not, depending on the outcome (of the legal battle), or some divine inspiration for funding for a new arena.

“That’s the way the owners feel about it and I feel about it.”

And while Stern has been proactive in trying to broker solutions to arena conflicts in Sacramento, Vancouver and other NBA cities, he indicated no such involvement was likely forthcoming in Seattle.

“If there were a role for me, the answer is absolutely yes,” he said. “But as we watch for an opening for an intelligent path … in Sacramento the team is a fixture and everybody expressed a desire that they stay, from the city to county to governor.

“It’s a completely different situation,” Stern said. “I just don’t want to offend people by parachuting in and saying this is the way it should be. I tried that and my track record is not good in Seattle or Olympia and I’m not sure I add anything to the situation.”

Facebook is Here To Stay.

I ran across this story on ZDNet about how Microsoft is investing $250 million dollars into Facebook.  This will make Microsoft the exclusive third party advertisement platform on Facebook.  If there was ever any doubt that Facebook was a solid player, this should put those doubts down.  Of course the Google lovers want to give all the credit to them for the entire process.  As a card carrying Google hater, I have to disagree.  I have an account with Facebook and MySpace and I must say Facebook is much better for me.  Of course my kids would rather use MySpace because their friends are on there.  I think Facebook was a tidy system but now that they have all these plug ins, they are not as organized.  Nevertheless I still like them and will continue to do so.

California Fires

I was browsing Flickr and found many pictures that people had taken of the fires in California.  It is sad to see these people hurting.  I can hardly imagine what people are going through over there. This photo was taken by slworking, a Flickr user.  I have been watching some of the fire coverage on Fox News this morning.  These people really need our prayers.  One thing that I do find offensive is the way some of our political leaders are trying to make this a political argument.  Some are saying it is a global warming event.  Most of you know my opinion on global warming.  It is a manufactured political movement to get money from the United States.  There are others that are trying to blame George Bush for having the military in Iraq preventing them from helping in the fire fight.  That is absolutely ridiculous.  What do they expect?  If  you put the entire U.S. military in front of a raging fire being driven by a 60+ mph wind, they would be mowed over.  I do hope the best for the people in  California.

I took the day off this morning because I am not feeling well today.  I thought I would take the opportunity to get some school work done.  Unfortunately I have been struggling getting motivation to do that either.  You know how it is.  I will most likely have to take off another day this week because my grandmother is having a heart procedure done sometime this week.  She is almost 89 years old.  She is in very good health so I am hopeful that she will do well with this procedure.
