Come on storms!

I know I am a strange person and I can live with that.  All I wanted for my Memorial Day weekend was to have some thunderstorms to enjoy.  Every since I was a kid, I have been fascinated with severe thunderstorms.  For the last four days there has been a tornado watch, or thunderstorm watch for the Northwest third of the state just teasing us.  Now that it is time to go to work tomorrow, they are the closest they have been all week but still not here.  There is something that I have noticed about when it comes to these storms.  It seems like 80% or more times the storms come between the hours of midnight to 3:00 am on work nights or during the work day when I am at work in a building with no windows.  It seems like the only time we get any storms they come at a time when I cannot watch them.

I know, I know I am whining!  Most people wish it would never storm but I really enjoy them.  Once again, bed time is approaching on a work night and if they do make it here, it will likely be 3:00 am.  I know it seems like I am exaggerating in this but it is so true.

I have been watching the Boston Celtics playing the Detroit Pistons and the Celtics look like they are going to lose so I may be changing the channel.  I am supporting the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals and they won last night but they have been playing lousy.  It looks like it is likely that the Lakers will be winning the whole thing.  I wish these games would be a little earlier so we can watch the whole games.  I better go since it is approaching bed time and I need to get ready for the evening.

***UPDATE***

How accurate could I have been? My prediction hit within thirty minutes. It is now 4:55 am and the storm is over. It moved through at 3:00 am on a work night night on cue. After waiting for these storms during the entire weekend, it waited until literally an hour before I had to get up to go to work on Tuesday morning. How predictable.

Twitter!

In a funny attempt to get seen on Techmeme, Michael Arrington posted a one word blog post on Techcrunch last night and it has spread across the Internet.  That one word post was…

Twitter!

This post was though meant to be a joke, actually made it on Techmeme, along with about every other tech hobbyist’s site including mine.  I wasn’t sure exactly what it was about until I read his Twitter page.  I would not have posted about it myself except that I love Twitter.  This Memorial Day weekend was a perfect example of how wonderful Twitter is.  We went to Lake Eufaula this weekend to visit with my father in-law.  Although I did have a great time, I was missing my connected life with the Internet.  Even on the third floor of his house, I could not receive any wifi at all.  I felt like a smoker trying to survive the first day of no smoking.  At least I could send and receive Twitter messages through SMS on my cell phone.  Even at the water I could stay in touch with those friends that I have online.  Call me an Internet Junkie but this started way before the Internet.  As a ham radio operator of 25 years, I have been accustomed to communicating to remote places.  Now that the Internet has so many communication tools, it fits right in with me.

As always, you can follow me and my happenings by following my Twitter page.  These tools are becoming so widespread that more and more aggregate readers are coming along.  The newest one that seems to be the rage is Friendfeed.  With this new toy, it creates a news feed with all your Twitter, Pownce, Facebook, Youtube, Flicker, Tumblr, among others.  It is pretty nice as you can see my Friendfeed page here.  With Friendfeed, you can keep in touch with all the social actions a person makes on the Internet.  It seems to be pretty cool.  My favorite is still Twitter because of the SMS (text messaging) capability and it automatically updates my Facebook status.  I like that I can get messages through Skype, Flock, Google Talk (ughh).  If you get tired of all my new toys, you can just follow me on my Friendfeed page because it shows them all.  I guess I have sold out for these new toys and love to be able to communicate while mobile.  I just wish I could settle on just one.

An Election Year Lost

As a conservative, I have always made a point to vote for president as long as I have been old enough to vote.  A couple times I liked my candidate, while other times I have voted for my perceived lesser of the two evils.  I am tired of doing this because our candidates have come to the point that they think we will vote for them no matter what as long as they are from the right political party.  I have historically voted Republican because I am a social conservative based on my Biblical views.  Historically they have given lip service to my causes but once they have been elected they never follow through with their promises.  I have grown weary of the Republican party the way I have been with the Democrats.

I have come to distrust both parties equally.  With each successive election the Republicans have become more and more left wing despite the media’s portrayal of them as right wing extremists.  This will be the first election of my adult life that I will not vote for either of the three candidates.  This year all three candidates are left wing liberals that I cannot support and will not vote for.  I feel that voting for them just because they are the lesser of the two evils would be enabling them to further betray us.  The political candidates come to expect their party’s constituents votes simply based on the party affiliation.  They have no obligation to represent their constituency because they know they will not be held accountable.  They know the American press has lost its ability to objectively present the facts.  The American press is so left wing that the Democrats know they will give their support and the Republicans still cannot accept that they will be bashed no matter what.  The Republicans try so hard to please the new media that they will sell their souls to impress them.  They still do not understand that no matter what they do, they will always get negative press.

The Republicans are so busy trying to not be criticized by the news media that they have become just as liberal as the Democrats.  The Democrats are so liberal that they support every wacko idea that comes around.  I cannot support any of them as long as they do this.  I would rather let the other side win this time than to let “our” guys think they have our vote no matter what.  John McCain has made a career out of betraying our trust.  I simply cannot vote for him just to keep these left wing liberals Clinton, and Obama out of office.  I use to think that way until I started to notice that each time I do this, our candidate became more liberal than the last.  Republicans have become as spend happy as the Democrats.  I do not support gay rights, abortion, or any of the other left wing agenda and the Republicans have come to support those ideas themselves.  I hate to be this way but if we Americans do not wise up and hold our elected officials accountable they will continue to betray us.  I do realize that most Americans disagree with me on this but I will not follow the crowd.  Mr. McCain can count me out as voting for him. Of course the other two can write me off as well.  I believe in right and wrong and principals are more important to me than acceptance.
