The Grand Total
The rain ended at 8:00 PM last night, October 9, 2011 and so this morning I took this picture of the rain gauge showing that we ended up with three inches of rain for the weekend. I live on the Eastern side of the metro near I-40 and Choctaw Road where the rain fall totals were less. The Western side of the metro received much more rain than we did. All I can say is “Praise God!” As you know this never ending drought has been going on for over a year. Yes, we’ve had rain and a couple times, we had a lot of rain like on May 30th, 2011. The problem is that when we received all that rain in May was that it was all in an hour’s time and it ran off and the heat wave really kicked on right afterward. In fact, since then we have only had a measurable rain a couple times. Yesterday’s rain was so exciting to see that I took a little video with my iPhone.
This video is not the greatest quality but then it was done with my phone. I just wanted to capture the rain while we had it. This morning it is foggy and so I just stepped out on the front porch to show the view out my front door.
This view shows how the fog nearly totally obscures the view of the valley below in the center of the image. Unfortunately the Cox Cable man happened to be painting lines on the lawn next door so you can see where their line will be buried. We could not ask for a better weekend with rain on both Saturday and Sunday. It has been so long since we have had a long rain like this that I cannot remember how long it has been. I would say it would have to be sometime last year. I just hope the clouds and fog hang around for a while. After 64 days at or above 100 degrees and sunny days that seems like forever, the clouds are a welcome site.
