Remodel Done
Well after eight days and plenty of late arrivals, the contractors finally finished the remodel. They left a huge mess and failed to repair a hole in the wall in the living room but the room is finishes. It took them exactly twice as long as they predicted. Here is a photo of the job.

Contractors part 2
The last post was actually yesterday even though it was posted today. I copied and pasted it from my other blog at http://blog.360.yahoo.com/plmccordj. I usually try to keep that blog up as well because many people use that blog also.
Anyway, those guys left yesterday and said they have another job to go to at noon today so they would be over early today and be gone before noon with the job done. What is funny is I did not believe him. Well now it is 8:30 AM and I just got a call from him telling us that he is going to go to court to try to get his driver’s license back. When he left our house yesterday it was after 5:00 PM and the court was already closed. He knew about this yesterday. This is an example of what I am talking about with these guys. Don’t tell someone you are going to be somewhere if you are not going to be there. This makes seven out of seven times they have told us they were going to be here, or was going to be done with a task and have been wrong every single time.
If you do a poll you will find that most people put honesty pretty high if not at the top of all character traits that matter. Telling someone what they want to hear and then not following through does not put you in a very good image with those around you. I would rather them just tell me they are not going to be here until 2:00 PM like yesterday than to say they will be here in the morning and then not show for hours. I should be greatful this morning they actually called before noon. That is the first time all week. They have a cell phone so there is no excuse.
I am sorry to vent but I feel that being honest gives you a lot of credibility and I will have a lot more patience with someone that is. I don’t like being lied to and I don’t know anyone else that does. This is a valuable lesson. No matter how bad your story is, just be honest. Most people will understand a bad situation if you tell them the truth.
OK, that is my rant for the day.

I Love Contractors
If you have read this blog over the last few days you know we have been having a bathroom gutted and fixed. These contractors have been showing up after noon and working for two or three hours. Each day when they leave they tell us how much they are going to get done and never follow through. I took some pictures of some of the typical damage they have done. Here is one showing how they knocked a hole in the wall in the living room so they could get into the wall.
That was on day two and they just left everything laying in the floor.
Here is a picture from the other side. You can see the hole in the wall right above the bathtub. Oh well, we’ll see if they get anything done today since it is 1:30 PM and they have still not shown up yet. I do not understand why they do not just tell us that it is going to take so long. They tell us each day tomorrow we will be done and then do not show up until after noon. The only one that actually shows up says he has had his driver’s license suspended so he has to get a ride over here. They turned our water off last Friday and just turned it on yesterday. We have been staying in the Hampton Inn. Well we will just wait patiently for them to get done. I have taken nearly 60 photos so far and you can see them here.

Bathroom remodel
This week we decided to have our bathroom completely remodeled and since I know my limitations, we decided to hire it done. It has been nearly a week and we still have no water. Since they removed the sink, toilet, and bath tub, they turned our water off. We have had the water off for two days and is still off. Last night my wife and I stayed the night at the Hampton Inn hotel near our home and had a good time. We both woke up early and aching all over. It is amazing how sleeping in an unfamiliar bed can make it hard to sleep. We are hopeful to have the bathroom back up this week.
I am also getting a little behind on my school work so I may need to take off work a day this week to get it caught up. I hate getting behind on anything. I got behind on our church sermons on their site and I finally got that caught up this morning.
My dad went to Illinois this weekend to see my sister. I know he’ll have a great time up there. I wish I could go but I have too many commitments. I hope to get rid of some of the responsibilities so I can be more successful at fewer things. There are just not enough hours in the day. Since it is midnight, I better close this for now.
New leaky roof
This morning I got up to get ready to visit my father in law and noticed a wet spot on the ceiling in our den. This is really troubling because we just spent $7000 last November to have three layers of shingles removed, redecked and new shingles. We paid extra to get the expensive shingles on the house. We are suppose to have the 30 year warranty. Well I don’t have time to mess with it this morning. Hopefully we can get it fixed this next week. We had over an inch of rain last night.
What a Christmas/New Year season we have had. In the last month we have replaced our water heater, shower wall, and faucet, and shower door. Replaced the bathroom sink. Had a plummer fix the drain under the kitchen sink. Had a plummer roto root the neighbor’s tree roots out of our sewer.
It is all done and to our amazement, we all woke up breathing this morning and I have a great wife and kids. We will have a wonderful New Year this weekend and be thankful for the things that we have. I think it is important to give God the praise for all the good things.
Paul
