Blackberry Outage

This evening I had some family from out of town visiting.  I took some pictures with my Blackberry with the intention of uploading them onto Facebook.  After about 10 attempts I became frustrated.  I could not understand why I could not upload even through my dad’s wifi.  Here it is about four hours later and I still cannot upload or for that matter use any data on my phone.  Around 11:00 PM I was reading Twitter and discovered that one of the trending topics was Blackberry.  I clicked on it and found that millions of people were posting about their Blackberry service not working.  These were people of differing service providers.  Then I found that people were posting stories from major news outlets advising us that Blackberry service is experiencing an outage in North and South America.  We can make phone calls and text messages but no data can be used.  I have many applications and none of them are working.

I am actually happy the problem is on the provider’s end and not on my own.  At least this gives me the confidence of knowing that it is not my equipment that is malfunctioning.  I truly have been very happy with my service over time.  I love being able to Twitter, Facebook, and listen to the Internet radio on my phone.  I guess I can give them the benefit of the doubt and give them a second chance. :) Hopefully it will be working by the time morning arrives.  If you have a Blackberry and your service is not working then you can put your mind at ease and know the problem is not on your end.

***UPDATE 12/23/2009***

It appears the service is back online this morning. I had about 20 emails, 20 text messages and a few Twitter messages all waiting on my phone this morning when I got up.

NEWS: You Are Going to Die!

DISCLAIMER: This is another humorous anti journalism post so if this sort of thing offends you, then go somewhere else.

This just in…  You are going to die!  The H1N1, Swine Flu is taking over the world and you have less than a zero chance of survival.  Hug your children and bow before the great Obama for your healing.  The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has reported that one out of every one people will contract this deadly disease and will likely suffer a slow and painful death.  There is no hope and you are going to suffer miserably.  Let’s go to our Washington correspondent for an update on how things are in the nations capital.

Thank you Bob…  The scenes in the nations capital are grim and likely to get worse.  This disease has shown itself to be racist and homophobic while black homosexuals seem to be the most affected.  Stop for  moment and realize that if our legislators had shown courage early and passed hate crimes legislation, this would never have happened.  It is bad enough that these individuals are suffering but to know that because of the color of their skin and their sexual orientation they are being piled upon making this even worse. The world is an evil place Bob and I am afraid that anarchy is not a strong enough word to describe the pandemonium that has ensued upon our nations capital.  Back to you Bob…

Thanks Eugene…  It is a site that we have not seen since the Republicans won both houses of Congress in 1994.  With that, I would like to see how Frank is holding up in Massachusetts.  Frank… how are things in the nations birth place?  Eugene, I am afraid that it is worse than ever.  Barney Frank, our senator has been attacked for his sexual orientation but because he is not black, he has been spared the worst of it.  There are people dying in the streets like cock roaches.  I cannot stress enough that your child may be at risk.  In all my years of journalism I have never been exposed to such horror since Ronald Reagan won the presidency with 49 states.  I feel tears bubbling up… Back to you Eugene…

Frank…why did you have to mention Ronald Reagan?  Now I have tears in my eyes.  Pull yourself together and get a tissue! Cough Cough…  Onto another story…  It has been discovered that gun owners and pro lifers seem to be healthier than others.  Word has been floating around certain circles that it is in fact conservatives that are spreading this disease.  We are just reporting the news and have no agenda at all.  To recap on tonight’s story, if you are a non conservative, black homosexual, or any other minority, you are going to die a slow death from a disease perpetrated by conservatives.  We report, you decide.  Now onto more positive news.  You are going to die from H1N1 because white heterosexual males are hiding tens of millions of vaccines. There is no hope and you are going to die.

Ha ha ha ha ha…  Now over to meteorologist Benjamin Netanyahu…  Thank you Eugene… There seems to be a storm that is approaching that will kill millions of Arabic people.  This storm has been responsible for the deaths of nearly every Arabic person as it approached the Seattle area.  This mysterious storm seems to be killing its victims by surgically striking them with lightning.  On a given street full of white males and two Arabic people, it seems that both Arabs are likely to be hit while the white males are spared.  Women and children, and the elderly seem to be the most affected.  It is a sad sight seeing the dead being brought out of their homes especially while their white neighbors are sitting comfortably on their front porches with a smirk on their face.  Back to you Eugene.

Thank you Benjamin… Now over to our sports correspondent, Louie.  Thank you Eugene.  It has been a very active day in sports with unprecedented mutilation of players of all sports.  This mutilation seems to be only affecting those that are of the protected minorities.  For some reason, innocent minorities are playing their respective sport only to be attacked by white males carrying shotguns with NRA patches on their white hoods.  These white males  had Bibles in their hands while mutilating their victims.  It has been said that Republicans are involved in this gruesome activity.  Several award winning sports celebrities were killed on national television by someone carrying pro life leaflets while listening to talk radio.  This anarchy must stop.  (Whisper) Psssst, Eugene, tell the control room they are supposed to be playing sad music but someone hit the wrong button and now Madonna is playing.  Back to you Eugene…

Thank you Louie for that insightful, informative, yet unbiased report. On behalf of the entire news room, I would like to thank you for choosing us for your news.  We strive to be as balanced and informative with our reporting.  Until tomorrow, good night everyone.

UPDATE: October 26, 2009

I originally posted this message yesterday and it was meant to be humorous.  Even with that said, I read it a couple times and thought maybe I went a little over board on this post.  Then I got up this morning and watched Matt Lauer on NBC’s Today show.  He was interviewing the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius about the Swine Flu.  She was telling about this vaccine’s availability and his tone was absolutely inflammatory.  He was putting words into her mouth and saying isn’t it true that by the time you can get this vaccine available that it will be too late?  He speaks of over a thousand people nation wide having this disease.  He fails to point out that in a country of more than 300 million people that is less than 1% of the people.  It was his reporting of this as though it was the largest crisis the world has ever known that really bothers me.  It is this very type of reporting that I am making fun of with this post.  NBC, or MSNBC in my opinion does this worse than most.  They are so bad in their reporting that it seems that they do not even make an attempt at appearing objective.  I use to think it was CNN that was the worst but now I think NBC is hands down the winner in this hysteria type reporting.  I just had to update this post and reaffirm my original feelings about this.

My Problem with “Going Green”

I think we all have a responsibility to be good stewards of the resources around us and that is nothing new. It has always been irresponsible to just waste things and pour pollutants out into the environment so I have no problem with that.  Where I have a problem with this “going green” movement is the motivation behind it.  This motivation is actually a near religious experience.  This motivation is a worship of the earth in more than a just being responsible.  Maybe I am misreading this whole issue but when I see the very people that preach to us against Christianity also speaking of going green, I am suspicious.  I know some of you think I am just crazy and in some cases I will agree with you there.  I clearly remember reading Romans 1:25…

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

This is exactly how I am reading this going green movement.  I see people worshipping the earth more than just as being responsible.  Again, I am not opposed to just being responsible with the resources available but this environmentalism in my opinion has gone beyond that.  You may be asking yourself what brought all this on.  Well as soon as I turned the television on this morning, I saw the field reporter telling us about a new “green” car wash in Edmond, Oklahoma.  She went on and on about how you can go green too and encouraged college graduates to seek out jobs in the “green industry”.  I thought she was almost preaching to us about our responsibility.  I was listening intently to see if she would start tell us to go green “uh”, go green “uh” like some television preachers we have seen in the past.  Okay I will lighten up but that is one of the things that makes me not want to listen to the media.  Instead of telling the news, they are always trying to preach some social agenda.

Do Not Worry About the Economy

I hear concerns every day about the economy.  People worry unecessarily all the time because they watch the news.  I am old enough to have experienced several recessions and one thing that always seems to be common with each of them is that the media always says “this one is different” or “this one is going to be the worst”. I highly doubt that this will be the worst. Despite people’s political views if we were honest we would have to admit that the media has a larger impact on our economy than either political party’s policies. The media hates Republicans and therefore will portray everything negative when a Republican is in office. They will beat a dead horse day in and day out until everyone believes the sky is falling. Since they REALLY REALLY hate George Bush, they have gone out of their way to portray the world as even worse this time.

Since they influence people’s opinions and scare people to death this results in a self fulfilling prophecy. People get scared and stop buying resulting in companies losing sales, stocks fall, and all the other events that happen when people are afraid they are going to lose their money. The terrible economy has zero to do with the policies of who is in office. Maybe not zero but I would say very little.

The good news for the economy is that they love Barack Obama. I mean the really love him. When he is inaugurated the media will portray the world as a “world of hope”. The great Obama will fix the woes of the world and all will be well. This is not necessarily true but since the media loves this guy they will get everyone to believe it and they will gain confidence. They will begin to buy again and the economy will grow. The people will believe that Barack Obama is the second coming of Christ (Joke) for fixing all the problems of the world. The end result is that the economy will improve. His policies will have little to no impact on any of this but people will think it will. Most people that follow politicians do not even know what their policies are.

I would not worry too much about the economy as the media has their man and they will have the world thinking we have reached a new Utopia and the people will believe it and start becoming active in the economy. There will always be those on the far left and the far right that will hate or love their respective candidates no matter what the media does but the average person to their own detriment will take the media at face value. This is not an attempt to put down Obama but to point out that the media has a bigger impact on the economy than the the President. They will never admit they have this power but anyone that pays attention knows this.

Blessings, Blessings, Blessings

Sunday and Puppy Dog

There are some things that are often gone unrecognized in a person’s life and one of those is the small things you do with your family from day to day.  Today my wife and I took off work so we could have a four day weekend along with the Labor day holiday.  My wife Sunday and I went to Norman, Oklahoma on the University of Oklahoma campus to walk through the park with the duck pond.  We had a very relaxing morning feeding the ducks and geese along this pond.  The only thing we had to worry about was our puppy dog chasing them away but we did have her on a leash.  In the picture above you can see my wife walking the dog along the banks.  I really enjoyed this first day of the weekend. Next month in September we will celebrate our 19th anniversary and I could not be happier.  I truly give God all deserved credit for the wonderful marriage that I have.  I am the most blessed person in the whole world for her.  I also have two teenage sons that I am very proud of.

We had a nice thunderstorm tease us this evening but it went around us.  If nothing else it cooled the area down some.  Later this evening I went to Bricktown with my son and his girlfriend to take some more pictures.  I have had my new camera for three days and I have taken nearly 300 pictures already.  I bought a new Canon EOS 450D, or Digital Rebel XSi this week and I love it.

School started back this week at the University of Oklahoma so I cannot relax too much though I would love to.  This was a very eventful day with John McCain picking Sarah Palin as a vice presidential candidate.  I have never heard of her before though I have been doing a lot of reading about her today.  I must say that if the things I have read about her are true, then I may vote in this election after all.  I have been so disappointed in John McCain in the past because he has sold us out numerous times and of course Obama is completely out of the question.  I had made up my mind that I was just going to sit this one out and bite my tongue.  I may vote after all if she winds up being a conservative after all and not just putting on the act just for election show.

Another big story today is this hurricane Gustav moving toward New Orleans.  This is a potential disaster in the making not only for those in the hurricane’s path but for the Republicans that are having their convention at the same time this hurricane is bearing down on the Gulf coast of the United States.  Lets keep these people in our prayers as they do not need another catastrophe destroying their lives again.  You may remember the last big hurricane Katrina destroyed the Gulf coast resulting in the New Orleans Hornets playing in Oklahoma City for two years.  This really helped Oklahoma City get on the map.  Now we have the former Seattle Supersonics moving in here today.  Just today the first four of 60 moving trucks arrived in Oklahoma City to unload at the Leadership Square building.  For the first time there are signs the team is finally here.  This coming Wednesday, September 3, 2008 the team will reveal the name, colors, and logos for the team.  It has been leaked in many places the name will be Oklahoma City Thunder.  Though there is no guarantee of this name, I am convinced it will be this name.

I believe I have covered most of the news for the day.  I appreciate you stopping by and reading my views despite my strong conservative views.  I am very optimistic about the future as well as thankful for what I have.

Pet Food Recall

It appears that a company that contracts dog and cat food has done a recall of their products. This company contracts out to some large pet food companies.  It looks like both the dog and cat food that we use is affected. You can read all about it here where T.J. has the story in depth.  The story does say that some animals have died eating this food.  Looks like this is becoming a common thing with the recent peanut butter scare.  Lets hope this is not too widespread as I know many people that have pets that are just like family.

Hit and Run

This evening we were going to Best Buy in South Oklahoma City and were waiting at a red light. There was a lady waiting at the light on the other side of the intersection. A car came up from behind her and ran into the back of her and then swirved around her going over the curb and into the grass. I thought he was going to pull around the woman and then back onto the street.

The guy speeds off around the corner and then takes off. I noticed the victim along with another guy was writing his tag down as he drove away. I also saw a pickup speed off after him so surely someone caught up to him and called the police to tell where he was. I was in disbelief that this was actually happening.

It is truly sad for that woman victim. She was no doubt traumatized due to the accident anyway. The fact that the other car left the scene no doubt compounded her anxiety. I hope they caught the guy. I cannot imagine why someone would leave the scene like that. What are they thinking? The only thing I can think of is that they are drunk, high, or have police warrants outstanding. After I got back from Best Buy an hour later this accident scene was still being investigated. I felt sorry for the woman because I have had an accident before and know how scary it is. Lets keep that woman in our prayers.
