Liberal Strategy?
DISCLAIMER: I voted for George W. Bush both times. I have been very disappointed in his leadership by allowing this war in Iraq to run his eight years and not get any conservative agendas past. I think his lack of willingness, or ability to take a stand at the media and Democrats under the guise of the “New Tone” has made things worse. I think he is not conservative enough.
I just loaded the Yahoo front page and happened to notice the headlines listed as you can see above. This is reminescent of the 2000 presidential campaign where the media willingly swallowed the pill of the fabricated stories of voter fraud and racism. Reach back into your memories when during the 2000 election George W. Bush won the vote count. Our good friend Al Gore immediately tried to do recounts in selected counties that he believed supported him. He was not concerned with fairness or he would have demanded a full recount in Florida. Weeks before the election we kept hearing to watch Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Before the voting had concluded the left wing media started screaming about voter fraud that the ballot was so confusing that the clearly mental deficient Palm Beach residents voted for the wrong guy. To this day it amazes me the depths the left wing media followed this story as though there was any credibility whatsoever. They had a marketing firm out of Texas calling people before the polling places even closed telling people there was voter fraud. We were told how the minorities were being turned away from the polls which is about as typical liberal trick is there is. People say prostitution is the oldest profession? They need to look at the liberal political ways.
The first recount favored George W. Bush. The second recount favored George W. Bush in a smaller majority. The third recount was finally stopped by the Supreme Court. Immediately we started hearing from the left wingers that George W. Bush stole the election. When you look at the situation, if it were not so serious it would be laughable. The very people that were trying to cheat so they could get their guy in and failed after three recounts accused the winner of stealing the election. We have listened to this nonsense for eight years. The truth is that IF there was fraud, it was on their side. They are the ones that ALWAYS oppose requiring an ID to vote. In typical fassion they claim it hurts the minorities and poor. Every time there is an initiative to change voting methods to eliminate these fabricated voting fraud stories they oppose it. They are the ones that insist on allowing illegal immigrants to vote. They are the ones that insist on allowing fellons to vote. The reason for this is that they know these people will vote Democrat.
The above photo is evidence of the Democrats and their good buddies in the media are planning on doing this again. The first story tells of a major shift in white women to McCain. The media has been bragging for some time that Obama had this group locked up. This story is followed by the story of 300,000 people in New Jersey being told they are not registered. Do you see what is beginning? I am certain the Democrats are already signing the contract with the telemarking firm to make calls before the polls close to warn of voter fraud. This way if they lose, they can start their screaming about nonexistant voter fraud. Why wouldn’t they? I mean it worked so well last time. The in typical fashion media has followed the Democrat line and not question any of these unfounded claims. They never do as indicated by this humorous satiracal video about how Larry King does not even question stupid claims.
This video is not new but it illustrates how the liberals can claim ANYTHING and the media does not question the validity. The first time I heard this about ten years ago I was so amazed at how realistic this really is. Anyway, this should be interesting to see how it turns out.
Photographer Harassed
It is ironic that I come across a story on Independence Day about the police violating a photographer’s right to take pictures of a crime scene. I ran across a story on the KWTV channel 9 web site where an Oklahoma City photographer happened to witness a high speed chase, resulting in a crash. The photographer’s name is Chris Owens of Oklahoma City. Chris pulled over and started taking pictures of the event and was approached by both the Oklahoma City police and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP). The officers demand that he stop taking pictures and delete the ones he had already taken or they would take him to jail. The story says that he eventually deleted them when the officer knocked his hat off and got in his face. Chris tells KWTV reporter that he later downloaded some software that allowed him to recover the photos allowing them to finally be retrieved. He filed a complaint with the police on this and demands an apology or he will sue the police. You can watch the video here, courtesy of KWTV.
I have been on record in the past being critical of the media and their coverage of events for their slant but I must agree with them this time. The police are a needed asset to a community and we would be an anarchist state without them. This is an abuse of their authority though. In the United States we have a right to photograph anything we like as long as we are not trespassing on their private property or violating national security. Whether the police like this or not, we have a right to photograph them while they are on duty or off duty with or without their permission as long as we are on public property and not interrupting their crime scene. Mr. Owens was outside the crime scene tape on a public side walk when he took these photos. As much as I can understand the public’s irritation with someone placing a camera on them, this is not a crime.
We Americans not only have the right to photograph our public service agent in public but we have an obligation to do so. I do not believe that all police are abusers of authority but without this ability to catch their actions with photography there would be no way to keep the abusers in check. This right is spelled out in a .pdf file presented by attorney Bert P. Krages. I did not just stumble upon this file, rather I kept a bookmark of a post from Thomas Hawk’s Digital Connection blog back in January 2006. Though we disagree on some issues, I must say Thomas makes a good point on this issue.
I love taking pictures though I hardly have time with attending the University of Oklahoma. I do feel that we must protect this right to photography because human nature makes people of authority abuse their power at times and this keeps them in check. I really hope that KWTV and other outlets keep this story in the news when the police do make their apology because people need to know they have the right to photograph police officers while on duty. The media needs to nail this one home so that others will not be intimidated by the authority. If this puts enough pressure on the Oklahoma City police, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, they will be forced to educate their staff on the rights of photographers to take photographs of crime scenes. If he stands his ground, the media will stay interested and this will be instrumental in the education of ordinary citizens.

WWLS Grows at Expense of KATT
As an amateur (ham) radio operator I tend to pay attention to things involving radio and television broadcast in the Oklahoma City area. I spent my teenage years in the 1980’s listening to rock music KATT-FM 100.5. They are an icon of Oklahoma City as they have been on the air since I believe 1976. As a teenager in the ’80’s I was devastated when KXXY 96.1, then called 96X went country. They made their transition by playing the song “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” over and over again. They played it for something like 24 hours straight. In my eyes and my friend’s eyes it was a national crisis. At least we still had “The KATT” we could listen tol
I remember vividly it was 1982, 1983, or 1984 (my senior year) that KATT played an April Fools joke pretending to go country. They played country music for hours in the morning. This was serious to me as well as my friends. This was another national tragedy to me. I went to school wearing my Sony Walkman listening to it desperately hoping to hear some good news that it was not true. This crisis was the number one topic of discussion at Del City High School that day. No one could concentrate on learning at school when our country was enduring a crisis of this magnitude. An event of this size was worse than the Sooners losing the National Championship. Schools should be released in mourning of the loss of our beloved KATT. It was later revealed that it was just an April Fools joke but it made the national news because the phone lines were jammed for hours. This joke was perfectly timed shortly after the other station KXXY had changed to country feeding off the frenzy of that event. Now I am 42 years old and I really do not listen to rock music anymore preferring Christian to my old rock.
All these years later though, I still look at KATT as a part of my childhood memories and though I really do not listen to that kind of music anymore I still have a soft spot for them. With all the buzz of Oklahoma City getting a new NBA Basketball team I have been listening to WWLS-FM 97.9. I have grown to love this station as well although they are only 6,000 watts effective radiated power (ERP). Recently I have been hearing commercials advertising that WWLS would be changing from 97.9 to 98.1 and will be increasing their signal five times the current signal. I started doing some searching around on the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) web site. I stumbled upon a page that shows WWLS changing their city of reference from Edmond, Oklahoma to The Village and increasing their power from 6,000 to 31,000 watts ERP. Their tower will be increasing from 315 feet, or 96 meters to 1541 feet, or 471 meters. This should increase their signal significantly around central Oklahoma.
After doing further searching I stumbled on another page that gives some extra details. This upgrade of WWLS FM could not have happened if a couple of other stations had not modified theirs stations. One of which is the KATT-FM radio station. As I spoke of before, they have been a long time station of Oklahoma City and have also been a powerful 100,000 watt ERP station. According to this new information, both WWLS, and KATT are owned by the same company, Citadel broadcasting. They have agreed to lower the power of KATT from 100,000 watts ERP to 31,000 watts ERP. In this same transaction, they move WWLS FM from 97.9 to 98.1 and increase their power from 6,000 watts ERP to 31,000 watts ERP.
I am not sure I like this arrangement as this cuts KATT’s signal down to less than a third of what it has been for more than 30 years. I like the increase in power of WWLS but not at the expense of KATT. I am not sure what the new coverage area will be but it must make an impact. I have received KATT near the Texas border in the past. I am sure there will be negligible difference if you live near the Oklahoma City metro but the fringe areas are surely likely to see changes. In the past KATT has always been a part of the group of power houses that had nearly 100 mile ranges. Like I said before, I really do not listen to that style of music anymore so my feelings on all this are mainly nostalgia. This has always been a hobby of mine. Anytime a new tower goes up in the Oklahoma City tower farm on the North East side, I usually go to the FCC web site to see what is going on. Anyway, I thought this was worthy news to share for those that are interested in radio.
I Disregard Traffic Lights!
I had a lot of hope this weekend to get things done but so far I have been unsuccessful. Yesterday I was bringing my son home from a small concert venue called “The Factory” around 11:30 pm when I was coming home through bricktown.
I was waiting in a long line of cars and I looked up and noticed the car in front of me had gone so I took off real fast and just as I hit about 4000 RPM’s the light turned red. Well needless to say there was a police car right behind me and I got a ticket. I was not trying to run the red light as most of you know the bricktown lights are very short. Oh well, I have no excuse so I will just pay it. The ticket does not have a price on it but gives a web site where I can pay it. It does state on there… “Disregarded Traffic Light”. I guess this makes me a felon and I need to move because I live less than 200 feet from an elementary school ![]()
On a brighter note, I bought a new TomTom One XL-S yesterday and I love it.

This thing is amazing how it is exact on the locations and even shows the railroad tracks as I approach them. Next year Sunday and I are going to go on a trip for our twentieth anniversary so this will come in handy for that as well. This thing actually speaks to you and tells you 200 feet, turn right on Sunnylane. It is pretty nice and I think it was money well spent.
I start my new job next week so I am excited/anxious about that. This will be a completely different environment from where I worked before so it will take some adjusting. I want to be successful and do a good job so I want to learn all I can. My current boss has not spoken to me in over a week since I found out about getting this new job. Speaking of learning. I had one paper to write this whole weekend and I have been having a hard time getting motivated. It is hard to get my mind into it this weekend. I think it is because of the big news about the job so my mind is preoccupied. We had a little rain yesterday but it cleared off later in the day.
My neighbor across the street is really getting on my nerves. His only means of transportation is a huge Ryder truck with the Ryder painted over. He has some problems with it so he has been working on it and draining the oil right into the driveway and then uses a water hose to spray it out into the street and it settles right in front of my driveway. He has done this twice in the last two weeks. Did I mention that it is a Ryder truck with gallons of oil? What happened to getting an oil pan to capture the oil and disposing of it properly? If that is not bad enough, he plays the stereo in his house late at night loud enough for me to hear it in the back of my house. I do not like to get into other people’s business but this guy has no regard for the neighborhood. I looked up the house on the Oklahoma County web site and found that it is a rent house and the owner lives a couple miles south of here.
Have any of you tried the Hotmail (Windows Live) Calendar lately? Yesterday I was browsing through and it is improved so much. It looks just like you are using Microsoft Outlook. It has the ability to share folders on the left just like Outlook. It has the same look as outlook when you put appointments on there. Too bad that I work on a military base where it is blocked. My employer blocks all webmails and social networks. I have to update my Twitter using my cell phone. I cannot even go to the site from their computers. I guess I understand their concerns. Anyway… The Windows Live Calendar is very nice and worth a second look if you have not looked at it lately. I better get this sent so I can finish my paper.

Baltimore Cop Out of Control
I ran across this video on YouTube about some Baltimore police officer losing his temper and wrestling a 14 year old skateboarder to the ground just because he called him “DUDE”. You can arguably say the kid was breaking the law by skateboarding but the police officer was way out of line here. I did not hear the kid smart off to him. All he said was “I did not hear you”. It was later found out on an interview with WTOP radio that he did not hear because he was wearing ear phones. I thought this was worthy of sharing.
