Goodbye Arland!

This is a great day for the Republican Party when Arland (sphincter) Specter leaves the party for the Democrats.  For the record he and his buddy John McCain have been stabbing the Republican Party in the back for years.  They are what the conservatives call RINO, or Republican in Name Only.  This is a great day and a good start in getting rid of these dead beats.  Mr. Specter makes the comments that he is leaving the Republican Party because they left him.  This is just a diversion to the fact that he had a Republican challenger this year and he was losing.  I know I know there are some of you out there that are not seeing the big picture will say this is just making the Democrats stronger.  My point is that the Republican Party of the last ten years has been just as liberal as the Democrats.  It is time to clean house and get rid of these liberal Republicans and get someone we can vote for.

It is a real testament to how left wing the Republican Party has become when people are shocked to find out that John McCain would dare nominate an anti abortion person like Sarah Palin.  If they were really conservative like the media portrays them then they would have expected it.  I have been preaching this for a long time and it is time we stop voting for our guy JUST because he or she is Republican.  That is just a title and means nothing.  Our doing that has allowed the Republicans to feel emboldened  and they have continued to become more left wing by the day.  They have reached the point of believing they have our votes simply because they are not Democrat.  As you can see this is not helping our cause.  I had someone tell me that to not vote for them assures the Democrats a win so I am not helping the cause.

I use to think like that and in fact argued with someone to convince them of that fact until I realized that our side was abandoning us.  Yes, I know that it is a high price to pay to allow the Democrats to win but it is a necessary evil if we are going to ever get a candidate to stand by their constituents.  I too think that Barack Obama’s only redeeming quality is his skin color but it is a lesson that must be taught to our side.  We cannot simply let the Republican have our vote simply for being a member of a political party.  Arland Specter and John McCain have sold our side down the river over and over again all the while saying that we are too extreme.  I thought the video above was so appropriate for this occasion.  For those of you that worry that him being on the Democrat side giving them too much power, then you have not been paying attention.  He already was on their side for years.  He stood in the way of many conservative bills from ever making it out of committee.

Instead of cursing the institutions that got him there such as the media, we should be embracing this career and encourage conservatives to join them and change them from the inside out.  The media is only left wing because we conservatives have cursed that occupation and have let them have it.  How about joining them and change it from the inside out?  Anyway, this is not a day to be upset but a day to be happy that we have purged ourselves of a cancer that has been killing us from the inside.  We have just gone from stage four cancer to stage three.  This is a bright day in our history! :)

Position Defined

As I browse through many social networking sites, I find myself taken back to 1992 when I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters in England. It was during this time when the presidential election had occurred and Mr. Bill Clinton had won.  I must tell you that I am both socially and fiscally conservative meaning that I support policies that are both socially and economically conservative.  As I have stated many times in the past, my measuring stick on what is right and wrong is the Bible.  In fact I use the King James Bible as my source.  During the 1992 presidential election I saw some traits about Bill Clinton that really bothered me.  I saw him as both a social and fiscal liberal.  It was his first act in office that confirmed my suspicion when he removed the restriction on the government paying for abortion at military facilities.  He instituted the “Don’t ask, Don’t tell” policy in the military relating to homosexuality in the military.  This policy was a compromise though he wanted open homosexuality in the military.

These were just a few examples of my distrust of the man.  My opposition to him was more socially than economic.  Again, I thought he was catering to the extreme left in this country and forcing policies on the country that were not welcome except in the most liberal areas of our country.  I spent eight years being angry at Bill Clinton.  I genuinely hated him for his stand on issues.  Many Christian friends of mine would point out to me that we are to pray for our leaders and not bad mouth them as I was doing.  This only made me more angry that my own group was piling on me or so I thought.  It was not until later after he left office that I realized they were right.  I was so angry and full of discontent with his leadership and hostility to everything I believed that I could not even be rational.  They were right in that I was wrong to hate him.

I spent eight years being angry when it was unnecessary.  This was followed up by the presidency of George W. Bush.  I voted for him twice and I must admit that I have been disappointed by him.  My disappointment is for just the opposite reasons the media dislikes him.  My problem with him is that he is not conservative enough.  I was involved in electing the Republican revolution in 1994 when they promised many conservative agendas.  They promised the “contract with America” with several policies they intended to pass in the first 100 days of Republican controlled Congress.  The media came after them with full force.  They called the agenda the “contract ON America” and successfully intimidated the Republican Senators and Representatives.  They went after the then Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich labeling him as a right wing extremist.  Since many in our country listen to the news media and actually believe they are neutral and have no agendas this tactic worked.

Despite having control of both houses of Congress, the Republicans were useless.  They cowered to the media fearing they too would be attacked.  What the Republicans failed to see was that whatever they do, it will always be painted as right wing extremism by the media.  They have taken the road of appeasement as opposed to getting anything conservative done.  With each election our Republican leaders have failed to deliver on promises to their conservative constituents.  They have promised the world and delivered nothing.  Their appeasement has worked in keeping their jobs though many in the conservative movement have reached the end of our trust of them.

John McCain was chief among these Republicans that turned on us while being a Senator.  Time after time he voted on key issues with the Democrats.  The media gave him the name “Maverick” and he wore it like a badge of honor.  I truly believe that to this day John McCain still fails to see where he went wrong.  He was elected, and reelected over and over again and turned his back on his constituents.  John McCain has earned the title RINO which stands for Republican in name only by many conservatives.  As time went on conservatives were left with no one to vote for.  There are many like myself that are tired of voting for the lesser of the two evils.  I have reached the point that I will not vote for someone just so the other candidate will not win.  I think it was time for our side to lose big so they will be reminded that they do have a constituency that they owe.  They will either back their constituency or not be reelected.

Along comes the 2008 election where Barack Obama wins the election.  I have mixed feelings with him.  There are many problems that I have with him and one of them is his mixed signals when it comes to his profession of Christianity.  He claims Christianity but then back peddles when asked to clarify that he is born again or even believes Jesus’ statement  that he is the way, the truth, and the life and that there is no way to get to God except through him.  Another is the unwavering support for his preacher Mr. Wright that is clearly racist and preaches racism in his own church.  Many times Mr. Obama claimed that he went to this church for 20 years and never had a problem.  Only when the heat was applied during the campaign when several unflattering videos of Mr. Wright appeared on Youtube did Obama retract that support.  It is my belief that this retraction was not genuine and Barack Obama does have the same racist beliefs as Mr. Wright.  It is hard for me to imagine going to a church that preached this message for more than 20 years and continuing to go if a person did not believe it.

Putting all this aside and taking the advice of my Christian friends who earlier told me to pray for our leaders I would like to say that I am willing to give Barack Obama a chance.  I am actually happy that we can say we have our first black presidents though I have extremely powerful reservation on his stand on issues.  I refuse to spend the next eight years being angry like I did in 1992.  I really believe God is in control and that Barack Obama can possibly be a good president with our prayers.  I am tired of playing all the political games.  I am tired of all the divisiveness and hate.  I choose to be happy and I encourage those conservative friends around me to do the same.  God is bigger than the situation and to deny that is denying his ability to reign.  After all, if you think about it, if John McCain would have won, you would have more of the same lip service while turning his back on us.  This election would have been another disappointment with John McCain in office as well.

This reminds me of a Veggy Tales episode that I saw when my kids were young.  Veggy Tales is a Christian cartoon where talking vegetables often told a moral story illustration God’s love and power.  There was an episode where one of the characters was scared of the “boogey man”.  The group sang a song “God is bigger than the boogey man”.  After all these years that kids show has stuck with me.  I am actually singing it inside :) .  The message of that song was so simple and is still true to this day.  I am not calling Barack Obama the boogey man by any means.  I do not see him as a bad man but rather a man with differing moral views than I have.  Nevertheless I believe with God in control, he can be a good leader.  I fully expect a lot of heat over my stand and that is fine with me.   I think having faith in God is way more important than being angry and ruining my family life.  The Bible said in Hebrews 11:6…

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Do you believe it?  I do!

Blogging all Day

This was supposed to be a day of getting school work done for the purposes of making my life better but yesterday John McCain had to go off and appoint Sarah Palin as Vice Presidential candidate.  I have been online all day reading blogs, Friendfeed, and Twitter responding to them. It is just amazing the incredible traffic online about this topic.  If you search Google Trends on the topic you will see that searches for Sarah Palin have eclipsed Obama’s entire search history in just one day.  I hate to admit this but I think John McCain may have made the best choice he could have done, even surpassing his expectation.  Whether you think she is a good or bad choice, you must admit she has generated more interest than anyone could have forecasted.

I have been so busy answering Twitter messages and blog posts today that my fingers are getting sore.  My wife and I went out to mow the lawn today and came inside to find even more messages.  The Republicans have been stagnant this election with the choice of John McCain because he has made a history of going against his party on issues that have pleased the media but offending the conservatives.  I was one of those people that have been fed up with him myself and in my anger I posted a very emotional message of anger back in February 2008 telling people to throw them out.  My desire is to have a true conservative, particularly one that has the same Christian worlf view that I have.  The last few elections the Republicans have given us lip service and then once in office have sold us out by forgetting who put them there.  John McCain has been cheif among them and I have grown a strong distrust of him.

I want to be cautious and not get too excited with Ms. Palin’s nomination as I have been disappointed before.  So far she seems to be conservative and have the willingness to stand for what she believes.  You cannot put a dollar amount on the value of someone having values and a willingness to stand for them despite what the media will say about them.  At this point I am cautiously optimistic on her nomination.  I am sure you have heard the phrase “burn me once, shame on you, burn me twice, shame on me’.  I have seen polititians give us lip service time and again and have come to be disappointed more than once.

In my typical technologically oriented self, I found out about the nomination yesterday from my sister in Illinois via a text message on my cell phone.  My wife and I were walking around the University of Oklahoma campus feeding the ducks at the pond so I had to wait until later to do some research on her.  So far I have been impressed and I may actually vote for John McCain for the sole purpose to allow her to get the experience so that she can run for president herself if she really proves to be the conservative leader that we have so longed for.  I may not sit this election out after all.  I will certainly be keeping an eye on the developments to see how it works out.

On another front, I would like to encourage everyone to keep those on the Gulf coast in your prayers to be safe as the hurricane Gustav approaches land.  These people will certainly need all the prayers they can get.

Thanks for stopping by,

Paul

The Media Just Does Not Get It

As I listen to the national media cover the primaries, it becomes more evident that they just do not understand conservatives.  This also includes some of the leaders in the Republican party.  They think that if John McCain says the right things, the conservatives will surround him.  They think that most conservatives will want to prevent the Democrats from winning so bad that they will support who ever the Republican nominee is.  I know those that would but those are die hard Republicans, not die hard conservatives.  There is a huge difference and that is where the media misses the point.

True conservatives, particularly those that are social conservatives like me are true to conservatism, not the Republican party.  The recent past has shown them to be the same people but that is because Republicans were saying the right things and then once they get in office, they forget those that put them there.  I am tired of accepting the attitude that we must support the Republican nominee to prevent the liberal Democrat from winning.  Look, John McCain is a liberal and refuses to give up the Republican title.  He does not represent conservatives.  In fact, Mr. McCain goes out of his way on every opportunity to betray conservatives.  He has done this since 1994 and he will not be able to win us over with a few words.

We know who John McCain is will never vote for him.  I cannot vote for John McCain, or Mrs. Clinton.  I would rather not vote for Obama either but if it comes down to McCain and Obama, I will actually vote for Obama to prevent McCain from winning.  I have not lost my mind.  I think that if you are going to get a liberal, I would rather have one that admits he is one rather than have one that pretends to be someone else and then betrays us.  The Republican party has forgotten that their base is the conservatives.  I think it is time to remind them they cannot depend on our vote simply on the fear the liberal Democrat may win.  I say, we must hold our elected officials accountable and make them represent their constituencies or be removed from office.

Please do not misread this by saying that I support the Democrats running, but rather feel that it is time to use this inevitable loss to clean house and remove some liberal Republicans and replace them with some real conservatives.  I voted for George W. Bush both times and he spends more money than the liberal Democrats.  We do not need any more big government Republicans.  If Mrs. Clinton gets the nomination, I will not vote.  If Obama gets the nomination, I will vote for him.  The only chance John McCain has to win the general election is if the those that are racist or against women in the Democrat party vote for him.  I will certainly not be for the conservatives.
This practice that encouraged by Carl Rove to vote for McCain using fear of Mrs. Clinton winning will not work this time.  We are tired of being used that way.  It will not work with me for sure.
